Carrefour bets on online operation to leverage sales

With a high of 11% in net income in the second quarter of 2019 over a year – reaching R $419 million –, the Carrefour retailer invests in a greater entry of sellers to the marketplace of its platform in Brazil. Through a teleconference held yesterday (25) to the market, the financial vice president of the retail network, Sébastien Durchon, said that the mobile application already corresponds to more than one third of digital trade sales and that the partnership with the startup of Rappi deliveries is helping Carrefour Brazil attract new customers. Also according to the retail network executive, the revenue margin of the digital operation should increase in the coming years, mainly influenced by a greater participation of the marketplace platform. "We arrived at a point where we managed to pay the e-commerce investment without having strong pressure from the gross margin of the entire operation. The food part in the digital just started, "he said. In the second quarter, the Company recorded a 59% growth in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV), a metric used to indicate total online sales. Total gross sales rose 12.9% in the period to R $15.28 billion. Excluding fuels, Carrefour Brazil had a 13.5% discharge in crude sales, to R $14.588 billion. Of this amount, around 71% were generated by the Atacadão flag.
