Fleury goes beyond diagnosis with one-day hospital and Health management

The almost Centenary group Fleury, one of the most traditional in the field of diagnostic medicine, resurrected the hospital one day, something he had already done before opening the capital in 2009. Starting today, it starts working in São Paulo, the Day Clinic of the brand Fleury within the Center of Excellence Orthopaedic of the group, in the neighborhood of Higienópolis. This is another step of the company that wants to consolidate itself as a health platform, going beyond diagnostic medicine. In less than five months, since December of last year, the group has been launching on new fronts to build this new business platform. At the end of 2018 he bought SantéCorp, a company focused on the management of employees ' health within the companies. In February, a center of infusions for the application of intravenous medications was inaugurated within the group's Immunobinobiology Center, which is located in the Morumbi neighborhood. Patients with chronic diseases who need to take medications regularly instead of going to the hospital go to the center. In the three projects, R $30 million was invested. The new areas of action do not mean that Fleury intends to become a hospital, much less a health insurance company. "Everyone is concerned about the sustainability of the health sector," says the business executive director of the brand Fleury, Jeane Tsutsui. According to her, the objective of the company is to broaden the outpatient performance, performing procedures of small complexity outside the hospital. At the hospital, the risk of infection is high and costs too. According to the director, experiences reported in the international literature show that the reduction of costs in a procedure performed in a Day Clinic is, average, 20% lower than the same procedure done in a traditional hospital. However, in the accounts of Rodrigo Abdo, managing Partner of Setrus, specialized consultancy in the health sector, this economy can be much higher and reach 50% compared to the cost of the procedure performed in a hospital. For the consultant, Grupo Fleury's strategy of positioning itself as a health business platform expanding to the correlated branches of diagnostic medicine is very suited to the market trend. The large number of examination requests made by physicians, whose necessity is sometimes questionable, presses the costs of the health system as a whole. And at this point, the group is building a business model that delivers more solutions with a lower cost of operation. One day In the Day Clinic that starts working today, the patient performs the surgical or outpatient procedure in at most 12 hours, enters and exits the same day. The Fleury brand has 13 integrated diagnostic centers in São Paulo. Jeane explains that one of the factors that determined the installation of the Day Clinic in the center of Orthopaedic Excellence of the group is that experience shows that 70% of the surgeries and procedures of the orthopedic area can be done in the environment of Day Clinic. In the past, Fleury came to have a Day Clinic, but was aimed at surgeries in general. It was installed in the same building where the new version of this business model will work. The former Day Clinic worked until 2009 and was discontinued at the time of the company's capital opening. As, at the time, there was a law that did not allow the entry of foreign capital in the hospitals sector, the group decided to leave the business in order to capture resources in the market. With the change in the law and the Strategic plan to expand the performance beyond the diagnostic medicine, the group returned to bet on the business model. The Fleury group, which billed R $2.9 billion in 2018 and profed R $331.6 million, does not reveal whether to have Day Clinic in other diagnostic centers. "We are evaluating every opportunity to offer efficiency and quality to the system," says Jeane.
