Food inflation rises in may, month of the strike

The price of food consumed at home rose 0.36 percent in May compared with April. The biggest high of 32.36%, was the onion, potato, then whose high price was 17.51%. The data are of the IPCA, released today by IBGE. When considered the Group of food and drinks, in which are considered also bars and restaurants prices, inflation was discharged of 0.32%. This price group, responsible for a quarter of Brazilian families, had been spending showing benign behavior since last year, boosted by good agricultural harvests. Pressure on food prices was already predicted by analysts because of the 11-day truckers ' strike, whose impact was enough sense in supply. However the IBGE does not assign the elevation of prices exclusively to paralysis, once the research is done in four blocks of collecting over the month and only the last block there were effects of the strike. The IPCA rose 0.40% may, well higher than the 0.22 percent inflation registered in April. In addition to the food, high prices of combustíves and electric power had strong influence on the result.
