eBay wants to accelerate recruitment of sellers in Brazil

One of the more traditional brands of e-commerce, the American eBay is returning their attention to Brazil. The Executive in charge of the operation in Latin America and Canada, Andrea Stairs, says that the goal is to accelerate the growth of base of vendors, who sell items on the platform. For this, the company hopes, still this year, investing in technological adjustments to make life easier for those who speak Portuguese and wants to sell abroad. EBay's focus in Brazil is called e-commerce "cross border", where goods are taken from one country to another. The company's business model is to serve as a platform for other sellers market products, paying a Commission. In other words, eBay does not have its own stock. In this model, the so-called "marketplace", eBay began as an auction site for used products. Today, however, 80% of the products sold are new and 90% have fixed price, i.e. are not sold via auction. Appointed at the beginning of the year to take care of the Latin American operation, Stairs was for the first time in Brazil this week with the aim of recruiting salespeople. Currently, eBay has sellers 4000 Brazilians, all exporters, according to the company. EBay hopes to have in the coming months in Brazil a series of facilities such as, for example, the translation of the description of products sold by Brazilians for other languages in countries where these items can be purchased. The interface to list products for sale will also be in Portuguese. In addition to encourage Brazilians to sell to other markets, eBay has tried to reach a larger number of buyers in Brazil. The company says is growing in line with the market in the country, with about 15 percent of buyers of the more per year. The Brazil is one of the countries in the world that more purchase of international retailers. According to a study of the logistics company UPS, 81% of Brazilians have already made international purchases online, percentage that is second only to the 83% of Canadians. In Europe, the index is 71% and in the United States, of 47%. According to Ebit, company specializing in information about e-commerce in Brazil, eBay is the third site where the Brazilians more buy to make international purchases on the internet. The site was used by 19 percent of Brazilians who responded to the survey of Ebit, after Chinese AliExpress, with 54%, and the American Amazon, also with 26%. Challenges. The cross-border e-commerce in Brazil, however, presents challenges. The delivery time of products purchased abroad has increased over the past few years, because of bureaucratic difficulties in Brazil, as the customs system related. According to Ebit, in 2017 were accurate on average 41 days for an item purchased in another country be handed over to the Brazilian consumer. The term worsened before the average 36 days registered both in 2015 as in 2016. Already the Brazilian vendors who seek to export, the logistical challenge is the main barrier. Differently than it has done most of the marketplaces that operate in Brazil, eBay unread with inventory management or logistics.
