Vegetable and fruit supply increases in the first half and crude oil

Sao Paulo-the supply of vegetables and fruits supply stations (Ceasas) was released, respectively, 6%, and 14% in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year. The increase led to falling prices.
Core prices were analyzed (Ceasa) of eight Brazilian States (São Paulo, Minas Gerais, RIO DE JANEIRO, ESPÍRITO SANTO, Paraná, GOIÁS, PE, CE) and the Federal District, as the Brazilian program of modernization of the Hortigranjeiro Market (Prohort), released yesterday (18) by the national supply company (Conab).
In the case of vegetables, the offer was 2,300,000 total in the first six months of the year. The fruit offered for sale totaled 2,400,000 tons.
"The result of this increase is that, for most products, registered a drop in prices," reinforces the Modernization market manager Hortigranjeiro from Conab, Erick Farias.
He cites as an example the price of tomatoes, which recorded fall of 15.3% in Paraná to R $1.93 a pound in June compared with the month immediately preceding, and 38.5% for R $1.65 per kilo in Goiás on the same basis of comparison. The price fell in all ceasas surveyed. "This is a result of the sum of a bigger offer with demand [internally] a tease," he notes.
According to the coach, another example is the potatoes that had increased supply, typical of the harvest: the retreat more expressive was 23.99 percent in Rio de Janeiro, to R $1.19 per kilo.
The carrot also recorded decrease of prices in all Ceasas surveyed in June by Conab. The largest retraction occurred in Minas Gerais, where the price of the pound fell 25.01%, to R $0.81.
Among the fruits that have recorded reductions in prices between January and June on the same half of 2016, banana, Orange and Apple.
In the case of bananas, the production has been recovering after a weak year. Already Orange, vintage 2017/18, which entered the market in the middle of the first half, presented in supply over the past cycle and regularized product supply. The offer of Apple is supported in stocks of fuji variety, in the South of the country.
Conab Executive believes that prices will remain stable in the second half of this year. "In the first months of the year the fruits and vegetables are more susceptible to changes in prices," he says.
Climate
He explains that the concern now is the cold, but only to the South producers. In Paraná, for example, the lettuce registered price increase of 92.9% in June compared to may, R $2.35 a kilo, due to losses caused by the low temperatures and frosts in the State.
Conab''s report shows that the lettuce was the only item to record high in five of the nine markets surveyed. For hardwoods, because Frost burns the leaves and the product available for sale will be priced more expensive, "says Fahmy.
In addition to the hardwoods, the cold affects other crops such as tomatoes. In early July, the low temperatures have caused the delay in the maturation of the fruit and reduced the supply of the product in the Ceasas. With that, prices start to recover, he reports.
"Overall, we believe that the climate should not affect prices since the production of fruits and vegetables is not concentrated in the South of the country", says the Manager of Conab.
