SAO PAULO-the Brazilian retail sales revenue shrank in June to 0,1% same month of 2016, already discounted inflation, down by the weak performance of the Southeast region, showed on Monday the index Cielo Expanded retail (ICVA),
The numbers show a improvement in the outcome of may, when the index registered a contraction of 1,4%. The fall of June is the lowest recorded since July 2015, said the Manager of the intelligence area of Cielo, Gabriel Mariotto.
According to the survey, the result was positively influenced by the effect of the calendar, with the exchange of a Wednesday for a Friday and, mainly, for the Corpus Christi holiday, which this year occurred in June, compared with may last year.
"It is interesting to note that although holidays often affect sales, due to the closure of many shops in Corpus Christi the previous days '' sales were stronger and more than compensated for the day of the holiday itself," added Mariotto, in a note.
Discounting the calendar effect, the index would have fallen 0,6% in June, indicating an improvement of retail, because in May there was 1,6% on the same concept of shrinkage, according to the survey.
According to the ICVA, retailers who have stood out in the period were drug stores and pharmacies and Supermarkets and hypermarkets.
The Southeast region was the only one in the country to submit an indentation of content, of 1,1%, but due to your economic importance, the effect was reflected in the overall average.
"Although only the Southeast have withdrawn in June, the Brazilian retail ICVA also was negative due to the huge representation of this retail region, pulling the overall index down," said Mariotto.
In the second quarter, the index showed retraction of 0,7% in the same period of the previous year, adjusted for inflation. While performance still negative, the curve this year shows an acceleration in the pace of retail, said Cielo.
