Uganda's coffee exports may reach 4,810,000 bags in 2017/18

Uganda's coffee exports may increase 4% 2017/18 harvest, benefit from crops that began production and favourable climatic conditions, the Executive Deputy Director of the National Union of coffee Agribusinesses and Agricultural Companies, David Muwonge, organ represents the coffee growers of the country. Shipments can reach 4,810,000 bags of 60 kg in the cycle started in October this year, volume above the 4,610,000 bags exported in 2016/17.
"More feet of new cafes are going into production phase and, with the abundant rainfall, exports will continue to have good performance", says the Executive.
Until the crop of 2015/16, the coffee industry of Uganda recorded falls in exports for three seasons. Millions of coffee plantations were planted five years ago and now reach the age of majority, helping to revitalize the African leader in the supply of grain.
Uganda plans to plant 900 million of coffee bushes until 2020, aiming to double annual exports to 8 million bags. Most of the grain grown in the country is the robust variety of bitter flavour, mainly used for the production of beverages and instant cast.
The growth in production of Uganda takes place amid the stagnant global export of robusta, which probably will increase the earnings of the country, say traders.
