Supermarkets drive 6.4% high in trading in September

Thanks to the advancement of 6% in supermarkets, retail sales as a whole closed the month of September with growth of 6.4% compared to September 2016. Considering the retail trade expanded, which includes sales of the automotive sector, growth was even greater (9.3%). The information is the PMC (monthly survey trade), published today (14/11) by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics).
In respect of the preceding calendar month, the September sales showed a variation of 0.5%. In the year-to-date, the result reached 1.3%. In 12 months, accumulated in the number is still negative,-0.6%. In addition to the supermarket sector, four of the eight activities recorded positive variances in comparison with September 2016, with highlight to the industry of furniture and appliances (16.6%) and clothing and footwear (11.7%). The fuel, on the other hand, showed a 4.1% decline.
According to economist Isabella Nunes, responsible for research, the advancement in the supermarkets and sales in general are associated with the increase in income of the population and the fall in unemployment. " To buy food and medicine are basic activities in people's lives. So, any increase in income will impact the results of sales in these areas, "he explains.
