Company wants to correct use of pesticides

São Paulo-Concerned with the proper management of crops, the excess in the use of pesticides and weed-fighting, Dow AgroSciences, American producer inputs, announced the "expedition to agriculture for life", aimed at the training of farmers.
With a truck fully equipped to assist in mobility, the idea is to reach to 2,500 to 3,000 producers across the country in 13 different States such as Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, in 40 municipalities.
"We want to work with concepts to prevent the problem from happening. It''s no use just use products. There are many other techniques that you can employ in handling that goes far beyond the defensive ", stated the Coordinator of good agricultural practices of Dow AgroSciences, Ana Cristina Pinheiro.
With multimedia interaction, including games and even a spray, simulator training to producers last for about 4 hours, with a maximum capacity of 10 people per event.
A great concern is the fight against weed calls. Expert on the subject, professor at the University of Passo Fundo, Mauro Rizzardi, will be responsible for this piece of content.
According to Rizzardi, the losses of producers with Horseweed, one of the biggest drawbacks of current species, reduces productivity in crops between 4% and 12%. "Many times the profit of it being lost. Then, he got to know the plant and build a strategy to not have this problem, "he says.
According to the researcher, currently there are about 300,000 species of weeds, and 30000 cause some kind of prejudice and generate more severe damage 13000.
With the impossibility of complete extinguishing of weeds, since these are intact on the ground, the fight, says the expert, is of paramount importance. "One of the ways to work is the variability of crops in the fields. I may have a crop rotation with corn in one part and soy in another, "said Rizzardi.
From the training and interactive games, the farmers are able to identify the different physical characteristics of the weeds and even learn what the herbicides and the correct amounts to solve the problem.
Another concern for inputs is with low levels of areas of refuge in Brazil. Responsible for this part of the training, the researcher for Dow AgroSciences, Antônio Cesar Santos, points out that less than 20% of farmers in the country take refuge areas and only 6% do it the proper way.
"IE: keeping the 800 metres away from the BT [GMOs] for non-BT, and also planting 10 percent [of the area] in the case of maize, 20% for soybeans and 30% for cotton" evaluated.
"So, today the situation is quite critical about the areas of refuge in Brazil. This is one of the reasons we are taking this job to the farmer, "concluded santos.
Another important step of the training is spraying. For this, the truck of Dow AgroSciences has drops spectrophotometer and a simulator. In the case of spectrophotometer, you can understand the advantages and disadvantages of using thin or thick drops in spraying. Already the drift Simulator shows the flow in the application of herbicides and other inputs.
