Sale of smoke already passed the half on safra

The Association of tobacco growers of Brazil (Afubra) estimates that approximately 60% of the production of Virginia tobacco was already negotiated in 2014/2015 crop in southern Brazil, which amounts to 360,966 tonnes from 601,610 tonnes production estimate. For the variety Burley, the principal points of sale 59,075 tonnes – around 71% of the planting forecast for the period, from 83,230 tons. The index of tobacco sale type common shed, whose planting projection reaches 11,010 tons in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná, is at 62% – about 6,840 tonnes.
According to the President of Afubra, Benício Albano Werner, the advancement of the product is accompanied by the evaluators, that search with the tobacco growers directly in the properties. Throughout this cycle, 1,480 families were visited already. Despite the crisis in the sector, the marketed quantity is considered normal and equivalent to last year. "We're beyond the half of the period of the sale. From now on, the producer begins to worry about the preparation for the next crop and should strive to market more quickly, "he observes.
The leader points out that the constant pressure from representative entities and public institutions by the industry has contributed to a slight increase in prices. In the past two weeks, the Afubra counts the average per pound of tobacco, considering the three varieties, increased $ 0.02 to $ 7.32 per kilo. "The appreciation of the product has had a significant improvement," he says. To tailor production to demand and contribute with this value, at the end of April the Commission of tobacco growers held a series of meetings with the companies, when it was defined the need to reduce the size of the next crop in 12% for Virginia, but without interfering in the structuring of the production chain.
The Secretary of the Afubra and the Mayor of the Sector of tobacco production chain, Romeo Schneider, still reinforces the concern of producers with the reduction in the interest of buying Burley by companies in the sector. The market difficulties are the main industry claim, since today the use of that type of tobacco is still uncertain in the country. The resolution of the Collegiate Board (DRC) paragraph 14 of the national agency of sanitary surveillance (Anvisa) allows the addition of sugar in the manufacture of cigarettes – since the Burley loses its sugar during the healing process.
However, to become usable, the variety needs of other additives which are not provided for in the regulations. To protect family agriculture, the Supreme Court suspended the validity of the RDC 14, which still awaits for examining the merits of the issue. The recommendation of the Afubra is for the lower field, at least 20% of the Burley plantation for the next harvest. "In the last three years, producers already have reduced production in 30 thousand tons," he explains. In 2014, the tobacco growers harvested 95 thousand tons of Burley. This year, predicting that the crop does not exceed 84 thousand tons.
Hearing
The pricing and sale of tobacco has mobilized the productive chain, which organizes various mobilizations to demonstrate dissatisfaction towards the direction of vintage 2014/2015. In early April, the Federation of agricultural workers of Rio Grande do Sul (Fetag/RS) joined about 1.5 thousand tobacco growers in the square Henry Bender, in the Centre of Venâncio Aires, largest municipality of the country's tobacco producer. With banners, posters and flags, the Group drew attention to problems like the rigor of sorting on treadmills. The producers still promoted walk to the headquarters of China Tobacco and Alliance One.
Last Thursday, the fumicultura also marked the debates in the Legislative Assembly, in Porto Alegre. More than 90 people attended the public hearing led by the Committee on agriculture, livestock and Cooperatives, which organizes another meeting this week. Next Friday, the issue will be resumed in Camaquã, in Sentry at CTG 10:0. The proposal by Mr Adolfo Brito (PP), Marcelo Moraes (PTB), Elton Weber (PSB) and Pedro Pereira (PSDB). The action has the support of the Committee of agriculture, supply and Rural development of the Chamber of Deputies.
