The printing industry has $ 269,5 deficit in 2013

Sao Paulo-the Brazilian graphic industry trade deficit reached US $ 269,5 million in 2013, according to figures released on Wednesday, 22, by the Brazilian graphic industry Association (Abigraf).
The amount represents a growth of 13% in relation to the 2012 deficit and is the seventh consecutive negative results in the sector. During this period, the worst mark was reached in 2011 ($ 294,5 million). The last was 64.4 million in 2006.
The balance of trade of Brazilian industry recorded imports of $ 548,6 million in graphic products and $ 279.1 million in exports in 2013. External purchases grew by 2% over the previous year, in contrast to a fall of 6 percent of international sales.
According to the Abigraf, the main highlight on the edge importer was registered in the segment of editorial items such as books and magazines, with $ 185.9 million or 34% of imports. By volume, 28 thousand tons were imported, or 28% of the total of 101.5 million tons crowded.
Between exports, especially the packaging segment, with total sale of $ 108,1 million, or 38.7% of the revenues from international transactions. This thread moved 66.9 million tons or 75.7% of the entire graphic production exported in 2013 (88.4 thousand tons).
To try to curb this trend of results, the Organization advocates the adoption of a margin of preference in public purchases of books, in addition to the zero rate of PIS and Cofins on books and periodicals.
In view of this measure is fundamental Abigraf to ensure tax neutrality in relation to the imported product, which is not taxed for PIS/Cofins.
"We are continuing with the procedures concerning the reduction of imports of graphics products and services, in particular those made of countries that do not uphold economic civilized standards," said in a statement the National President of the Abigraf, Fabio Arruda Mortara, in reference mainly to competition from Asian countries.
China and Hong Kong are among the top foreign suppliers of books and magazines for Brazil.
