Fertilizer sales remain heated

The supply of fertilizer mixers to final consumers companies totaled 1.777 million tonnes in Brazil in April, according to information released by the National Association for the diffusion of Fertilizers (Walks). Over the same month last year, an increase of 14.2%, influenced by the demand for the winter planting this crop 2012/13 and also by the anticipation of purchases aimed at sowing next summer grain crop, which will start in September.
Once again the increase was met with imports, which surpassed the supply, which may indicate that companies are already offering with a view to ensuring a probable concentration of sales in the third quarter. As the Walks, entered the country last month 1.901 million tons of fertilizer intermediates, 54.4% more than in April 2012. Domestic production already fell 7.3 percent, to 730 thousand tons. Fertilizers are "mixed" according to different formulations for the manufacture of fertilizers after acquired by farmers.
With these results, the deliveries reached 7.19 million tons in the first quarter, an increase of 4.7% as compared to the same period last year, imports grew 28.9% in comparison to 5.499 million tonnes and domestic production reached 2.985 million tons, with a slight decline of 0.1%.
