Lydian Carraro will serve the World Cup wine

The small Lydian Carraro Winery, the region of the Vale dos Vinhedos, in Bento Gonçalves (Rio Grande do Sul), got the better in the selection carried out by Fifa and will provide exclusive licensed wines for the 2014 World Cup.
The choice guarantees preference to products in competition-related events and also to the Confederations Cup, which will be held this year, and "will open many doors" for the company in the domestic and foreign markets, says sales director Julian Castro, son of Lydian and brother of Giovanni and Patricia (see photo above).
"The brand will be more known and strengthened", says Julian. The Lydian Carraro competed in the contract, valid until the end of 2014, with large national and international companies of the sector, as Chile's Concha y Toro and the Brazilian crumb and Salton.
In exchange for the recognition, the Lydian Carraro will provide a batch of 6 thousand bottles to Fifa and will pay royalties to the entity. The products will be identified through the application of the 2014 World Cup logo and a holographic seal on the label.
Focused on the production of high standard wines, the winery sold 300, 000 family bottles in 2012 and already this year aims to reach 500 thousand units due to the visibility provided by the licensing of three labels of the portfolio. The volume approaches the boundary of the industrial capacity of the winery, which has an expansion project to reach up to 1.3 million bottles per year in ten years.
The licensing includes the lines "Great Vintage", with bottles selling for $ 125 in specialty stores, the "Collection", which costs about $ 75, and the "Faces", which will be released in may or June with more affordable price, in the range of $ 30, and is also available in some supermarket chains. The first wine of the new family will be an "assemblage" red (cut), with predominance of merlot grapes. Next will be released one white and a rosé.
According to Julian, the agreement with Fifa must also "greatly increase" the volume of exports, which now absorb 30% of the production of the Lydian Carraro. The largest part of sales is directed to United States, Holland, England and Canada, but soon after the official announcement of licensing, made on Monday by Director of marketing and export Patrícia Castro at the fair Prowein in Düsseldorf, Germany, the company has already been sought by an importer from Japan.
So far the Lydian Carraro uses only grapes produced in our own vineyards in Bento Gonçalves, in the serra gaúcha, and also in the city of Encruzilhada do Sul, in the South of the State.
The area itself is almost total 210 hectares, of which 43 acres already in production, and for the preparation of "Faces" will also be acquired raw materials provided by independent producers, explains Julian.
