Dell and EMC conclude industry''s largest merger and minimize overlaps

São Paulo-considered the largest acquisition in the history of market technology, the purchase of supplies infrastructure for data centers and software by Dell was officially completed. The Brazil will be one of the few markets where companies will coexist, next to India, China, Mexico and USA.
Both companies-both Dell, turned to the final consumer, as Foz Dell EMC, focused on infrastructure for companies-will be under the hat of the newly created Dell Technologies, operating in a manner that is "strategically aligned, but independent," according to the President of Dell in Brazil, Luis Goncalves, who is leading the merger process in Brazil alongside Carlos Cunha until then President of EMC in the country.
During the press meeting held yesterday (8), Cunha said that the overlap generated by the merger will be "too small", minimizing the possibility of cuts and admitting even though some of the EMC personnel will migrate for Dell, while others do the opposite direction; announcements of new executives to the two structures should happen in the next few weeks. Already the program of both channels must be integrated and become only until February of next year. "70% of the EMC team has worked with Dell since 2005", justified, claiming that the long-standing partnership should facilitate the junction of times.
Maturated since last October, the purchase of EMC-budgeted at $ 67 billion-resulted in the largest technology company in the world with capital closed; together, Dell and acquired generate annual revenues of $ 74 billion. The package still includes RSA acquisition (cybersecurity) and Virtustream (cloud applications), which will be entirely controlled by the buyer. Already the Pivotal (provider of software platforms), SecureWorks (cybersecurity) and the popular VMWare virtualization tool-that acted together to EMC in Federation model-will be connected to Dell via equity participation.
In the clouds
The motivations of the business that generated one of the biggest giants in the world in the field of technology is clear: the growing importance of cloud (or cloud). With the advent of technology, formerly costly services and applications have become accessible, since the cloud allows signings in the style "pay as you use". The so-called "digital transformation", or the stream of companies leaving the "traditional model" of YOU-very dependent on data center and hardware-for "new", more and more virtualized, does not pass unnoticed to the segment, such as Microsoft, HP and Intel. All of them-with varying degrees of success-already have initiatives to adapt to the cloud environment, which also matters more and more to Google. With a consolidated cloud service (AWS), the Amazon is one of the best placed in the segment.
However, Dell Technologies should not-at least at first-compete head-on with the AWS, which is in the public cloud (cheaper and easily accessible via internet, but shared) his flagship; the focus will be on hybrid cloud options. "It''s no use thinking that companies will migrate and simply throw away [the existing infrastructure]," says Carlos Cunha. "They''re going to have to coexist and that''s our proposal."
According to IDC Brazil, 56% of Brazilian companies had, at the beginning of the year, digital transformation plans scheduled for 2016. In 2015, the growth of 20% in cloud services protected the segment of a fall greater than the 2.6% identified in the year.
PCs
Already the personal-computer market that crosses troubled moment on a global scale-gave his first sign of reaction in the country: according to data published yesterday by the IDC Brazil and related to the second quarter, the segment grew back after a year and a half of consecutive retractions; in 2015, the tumble of the market hit the 36%.
1.182 million computers were sold between January and April, number 13% registered in the first three months of the year; in year-to-year comparison, however, the fall was 28%. Of the total sold between April and June, 436,000 units were 746,000, and desktops notebooks. About 382,000 of 1.182 million amount machines had the corporate market as a destination.
