70% of Brazilians want to stay in home office, says USP survey

After the rush to adapt the office routine to work at home, with the sending of computers, keyboards and chairs, Brazilian professionals had about 4 months to test - and approve - the new model.
According to research at the School of Economics, Administration and Accounting (FEA) of USP, 70% of Brazilians would like to continue working from home. Only 19% said they would not like to stay in the home office and 11% said they were indifferent.
In an interview with Rádio USP, Professor Wilson Amorim, one of the coordinators of the report, expressed surprise at the results: because of the circumstances, he expected people to have a more critical position in the home office, and that did not happen.
In the study, about 1,300 people were interviewed, with a predominance of professionals with high qualifications and high income.
Unlike FEA professor, Stanford management professor Robert E. Siegel believes that preference for the more flexible model is natural. In an interview for the article "Work from anywhere", he compares fighting this change with disagreeing with gravity.
"Don't you like it? Well, gravity doesn't care, it just is," he says of the tendency for people to get a taste for the convenience of home office flexibility. In a Cognizant survey, 80% of professionals said they would turn down a job offer that did not offer the possibility of performing their tasks outside the office.
For Siegel, only the saving of office travel time and quality of life gain would already be strong influences for the preference for remote work. The first reason is also mentioned by the professor at USP.
According to Amorim, insecurity about their own health and rising unemployment help increase the satisfaction of those who can stay at home.
For those who want to stay at home, the good news is that the model is also positive for companies. In addition to cost savings such as rent and energy, the home office has an increase of up to 13% in productivity, according to Cognizant.
In research by Betania Tanure Associates, 85% of the companies consulted revealed that they intend to maintain the home office policy for employees to some degree. Companies such as Facebook, Twitter, XP, Qualicorp and Zee.Dog have already announced that they will make going to the office optional from now on.
