Government may anticipate Crop Plan 2020/21, says Minister of Agriculture

The government will be able to anticipate the Safra Plan this year "to give a horizon" to Brazilian farmers who take these resources, amid fears with less credit supply for the future crop due to the economic scenario complicated with the new coronavirus, he said this Sunday (5) the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina. However, the minister pondered that the government's program of financing Brazilian farmers, family and business is not enough to meet the needs of the sector and that she will meet this week with The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, to discuss the situation. "We are thinking of trying to anticipate the Crop Plan to give a north for those who take this resource. But we know that it is 40% only of what it takes to touch a crop the size of the Brazilian crop, for this whole gear to work. So really this is the number one issue of my concerns and my management," said Tereza Cristina. The statement was given during a videoconference transmitted on the Internet with representatives of the agribusiness sector and conducted by agronomist Xico Graziano, mba professor at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV). The concern occurs despite the approval by the Senate last month of the so-called AGRO MP, edited to modernize rural financing. The measure, defended by the Parliamentary Front of Agriculture (FPA), still depends on presidential sanction. The minister's speech came after a statement by former Agriculture Minister Blairo Maggi said during the videoconference, to see "difficulty in having the volumes of resources needed so that next year we can have this super harvest".
