Engie and Inframerica sign contract to trade diesel for clean energy at Brasilia Airport

The generator Engie and the concessionaire Inframerica today formalize a partnership for the exchange of diesel for clean energy in the supply of electricity for the planes parked at Brasilia Airport. The agreement provides for the replacement of small diesel generators, which today supply aircraft with electricity, by a system that feeds them directly from the 22 fingers. In addition to the reduction in cost to airlines, the initiative promises to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from Brasilia Airport by 17,000 tons per year. Strategic Market. The partnership with Inframerica consolidates Engie's expansion in one of the markets considered strategic by the company in the country and abroad: the airport sector. Through its arm of solutions, the company already provides maintenance service of the air conditioning systems of galeão and Belo Horizonte airports and has the Airport of Natal, also administered by Inframerica, as its free customer. Engie is in the process of closing a contract to also migrate, in 2021, Brasilia Airport to the free market. The company sees the potential to offer solutions to more than 60% of an airport's services. Operational efficiency. On the Inframerica side, the project is another initiative to increase airport efficiency and reduce so-called "minimum connection time." The company has plans to make Brasilia Airport a hub for international flights in Brazil, competing with Cumbica and Galeão. The shorter passenger transfer connection time and lower costs for airlines are important factors for the strategy. Since taking over Brasilia Airport, the concessionaire has reduced the minimum connection time from 1 hour to 35 minutes. The complete exchange of diesel for the fingers system will take place in 12 months.
