BTG Pactual buys Exame magazine

BtG Pactual bank acquired on Thursday (5) Exame magazine, grupo Abril, for R$ 72.374 million. The magazine was sold through an auction held in São Paulo. Only BTG participated in the dispute. The sale of the magazine is part of a restructuring of grupo Abril. The company was sold in December last year to businessman Fábio Carvalho. The transaction for Carvalho was closed for a symbolic value. He took about R$ 1.6 billion in debt and control of the company created in 1950 by the Civita family. The publisher filed a request for judicial recovery in August last year. The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade), linked to the Ministry of Justice, approved in January the sale of the Abril Group for Carvalho.
