Corn exports rise more than 130% by September with revenues of US $4.9 billion

Brazilian corn exports rose more than 130% between January and September of this year in comparison with the same period of 2018, according to the Secretariat of Commerce and International relations, of the Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday (10). According to the government, the main buyers countries of the Brazilian corn were: Japan (US $605,130,000), South Korea (US $386.4 million), European Union (US $371,250,000), Vietnam (US $293,960,000) and Taiwan (US $292,610,000). "The product has benefited from the trade tensions between China and the United States, with a strong increase in exports to China," says the ministry. Result in September In the month, agribusiness exports totaled US $7.75 billion, a value of which was 3.9% lower than the amount exported in September 2018 (US $8.06 billion). "The decline in exports occurred due to the reduction in the price indices of agribusiness products exported by Brazil, which recorded an average retreat of 4.5%," explains the government communiqué. Of the total value exported by the country in September, agribusiness accounted for 41.4% (US $18.74 billion). In the same month of 2018, agribusiness exports had a 42% share in total exports. The imports of agribusiness products were low, from US $1.07 billion in September 2018 to US $1.05 billion in September 2019, a decrease of 2.1%.
