New rents soared below inflation in 2018, points Fipe

The new rents soared below inflation in the past year, according to a survey released by Fipe. In 2018, the FipeZap Residential Rental Index accumulated high of 2.33%-below the inflation for the period, to 3.75 percent, according to the consumer price index, calculated by the IBGE. With this result, the new rents had actual 1.37% fall. Among the 15 cities monitored by the Fipe, the price high was recorded in São Bernardo do Campo, in Sao Paulo, of 8.85%. Then the greatest variations were observed in Recife (+ 6.69%) and Curitiba (+ 5.68%). Three cities had nominal drop in price of new rentals: Rio de Janeiro (3.44%)-Fortaleza (-2.72%) and Niterói (-1.92%). In December, the highest average price of lease was recorded in São Paulo, R $37.04 per square metre, followed by Rio de Janeiro (us $30,10/m2) and the Federal District (R $29,83/m2). Among the cities with the lowest value of residential rentals, among the monitored by index FipeZap, are Fortress (R $15,96/m2), Goiânia (us $16,06/m2) and Curitiba (us $18,16/m2).
