The new rents soared below inflation in the past year, according to a survey released by Fipe. In 2018, the FipeZap Residential Rental Index accumulated high of 2.33%-below the inflation for the period, to 3.75 percent, according to the consumer price index, calculated by the IBGE. Among the 15 cities monitored by the Fipe, the price high was recorded in São Bernardo do Campo, in Sao Paulo, of 8.85%. Then the greatest variations were observed in Recife (+ 6.69%) and Curitiba (+ 5.68%).
Three cities had nominal drop in price of new rentals: Rio de Janeiro (3.44%)-Fortaleza (-2.72%) and Niterói (-1.92%).
