Smartphones sale falls 16% last year, says Gartner

The Brazilian market of smartphones had another drop in sales in the year 2016. According to figures from Gartner Consulting published exclusively for the State, the industry had 16% drop last year, selling a total of 43,400,000 units – in 2015, were 50,200,000 of smartphones sold.
The data reflect the economic moment in the industry in 2016: affected by the economic crisis and the devaluation of the real against the dollar, the companies bet on more robust devices with better profit margins, and left aside the input segment, with higher sales volume. Consumers, for your time, with less money in their pocket, they chose cheaper appliances or have decided to postpone the purchase of a new handset.
The Gartner survey also showed the slices of each company in the Brazil market. The South Korean Samsung led once again sales of smartphones, while maintaining your market share in 38.2%, with 16,600,000 units sold.
The podium also remained the same compared to 2015: Chinese Lenovo and South Korean LG also took the second and third positions, respectively. Owner of the Motorcycle brand (the former Motorola), quite popular in Brazil, Lenovo expanded your market space – from 19% in 2015 to 19.8% in 2016.
Who also grew enough was the Apple: Fifth, the company saw jump your iPhone market share of 4.5% to 5.6% on consumer preference. Two factors helped the company: Besides having a captive audience, I always return to mobile with the arrival of new models, there was also the release of the iPhone, "cheaper" version of the iPhone 4 screen with 6 inches.
Another Gartner survey data is that Android has expanded your advantage as preferred operating system of Brazilians in 93.8% of smartphones sold in the country last year – in 2015, was 90.7%. The growth, however, was motivated by the Microsoft market output: two years ago, the Windows Phone had 4.2 percent of the market; as early as 2016, only 0.5% of sales.
Gartner also measured the total number of mobile phones sold in the country – simple so-called feature phones. In this particular case, the market had 39% drop, falling for 3,900,000 5,400,000 units sold.
