Potato was the item that more went up in supermarkets in April, says Open

Sales in supermarkets went up 0.24% in the first four months of the year, according to the National Sales Index Open. In April, sales in the industry in real values (taking into account inflation by IPCA) fell 5.87% in comparison with the previous month and retreated 2.50% compared with the same month of 2015.
In nominal values, sales showed a fall of 5.29% from the previous month and when compared to April last year, high of 6.54%. Year to date, sales rose 10.22% according to Open.
Products
In April, the basket of products searched for Open recorded high of 0.90%, from R$ 461.12, in March, to R$ 465.28 in April. The product that more rose was hit with high of 17.36%, followed by the long-life milk, which was 9.85% more expensive.
The tomato, in turn, was 15.15% cheaper in April, followed by the egg, which retreated 4.48% over the same period, according to research.
Regions
In April, the high prices was registered in the Southeast (2.86%), with the regional basket coming to R$ 451.04. The Midwest region was the one that recorded the biggest fall ( -0.28%), reaching R$ in the basket 446.13 analyzed by survey.
