Internet access made via smartphones exceeds PCs

The Country has recorded, for the first time, a greater access to the internet via cell phone than the amount made through PCs, in 2014. The data is the supplement of information technologies and communication National research for sample of Domiciles (Pnad).
Released by the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE), the study points out that among households with internet, 80.4% (29.6 million households) had access via cell phone; 76.6% (28.2 million) by microcomputer; 21.9% (8.1 million) for tablets; 4.9% (1.8 million) for tv and 0.9% (0.3 million) for other equipment.
The number of households with internet access via tablet, mobile phone and television increased, respectively, 50.4%, 76.8% and 116.34%, compared to 2013. The internet already reaches more than half of Brazilian homes. In 2014, 54.9% of households had access to permanent private network, equivalent to 36.8 million households. In 2013, they were just 48% of households.
The northern region was presented the highest proportion of cell phone use for internet access in 2014:92.5%. "For reasons of infrastructure in the North, the greater difficulty of getting cabling, mobile access to the internet there greatly increases," explained the technical coordination of work and performance of the IBGE, Helena Monteiro.
The Country registered yet advancement in broadband connection. Of the 36.8 million households with internet access, 0.8% had only 99.2% dial-up and broadband connection. The fixed broadband connection grew 9.9% from 2013, but their proportion of 77.1% fell: 71.9% of households with Internet. Already the presence of mobile broadband jumped from 43.5% to 62.8% of the households with Internet, a 70% expansion in the period of just one year.
Fixed lines
The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) updated yesterday the indicators on fixed telephony in Brazil, indicating new retraction in the segment. The Country closed February with 25.255 million active lines, against 25.350 million January, confirming next fall trend.
Two dealers have registered slight retraction on the number of connected devices. Oi lost about 63 1000 users. Already the Telephone base fell in almost 36 1000 rows. Among the authorised (that don''t work in the concession regime), Telecom Americas lost almost 19 1000 customers. The Board of Directors of the Fcc has been studying changes in the regulatory framework of fixed telephone to blunt the impact of the decline in the attractiveness of the service.
