Brazil reaches 168 million smartphones in use

The Brazil reached 168 million smartphones in use, an increase of 9% compared to 2015, when the installed base was 152 million smart phones. The data is the 27th annual survey of management and use of information technology in enterprises, conducted by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation in São Paulo (FGV-SP) and disclosed yesterday.
According to the study, it is expected that, over the next two years, the Country has 236 million sets of this type in the hands of consumers, in a growth of 40% in relation to the current time.
For Fernando Meirelles, professor at FGV-SP is responsible for the study, young users have been the main motivators of this market. " If the user has R$ 2 1000 and can buy a computer or a smartphone, the chance to opt for cell phone is greater if he is young, "he says. "The smartphone became the main form of internet access to the home user." The research of FGV-SP measures only the number of smartphones in use in the country doing sales considerations of this kind of device.
However, according to data from consultancy IDC, there were 13.4% drop in the number of smartphones sold in Brazil in 2015. In all, were little more than 47 million units, against 54.5 million units in 2014.
Computers. Currently, according to the survey, Brazil also has 160 million computers (including notebooks, tablets and desktops) running on a 7% growth in the installed base with respect to the survey of 2015. By the end of the year will be 166 million computers in use – the number includes 30 million tablets.
If the forecast is confirmed, at the end of the year the country would have four computers for every five inhabitants. Without counting the tablets, are two devices for every three births. The data keep Brazil ahead of the world average of 78 devices for every 100 inhabitants. In the world, are 60 computers for every 100 inhabitants, while in the United States the proportion is considerably higher: 144 devices for every 100 people.
For Manning, the prediction is that the country reaches the mark of a Brazilian computer between 2019 and 2020, when the number of 210 million computers on the installed base.
"It''s been three years since we postpone this prediction, but we believe that the Country will recover economically and achieve this goal in the next few seasons," said professor during the event for the dissemination of research results.
In addition to considering market data, research also raised 8 1000 data medium and large national companies, receiving 2.5 1000 responses considered valid. According to the FGV-SP, 66% of the 500 largest companies in the Country participated in the survey.
Sales. In addition to disclose data about the installed base of devices in the Country, the survey conducted by FGV-SP also assesses sales of computers and tablets in the country in 2015. For the first time in the history of the survey, there was a drop in the number of traded units of category two years in a row.
In all, 14.2 million handsets were sold in 2015, indentation of 30% with respect to 2014. Despite the fall, the average price of the computer remained stable at $ 400-brand that stands since 2008. However, because of the exchange rate fluctuation, the machines arrive more expensive around here.
For Manning, the fall is due to a change in behavior in the home user who has opted for smartphones, in the same way as it did with tablets for a few years. "The tablet had a flight. It''s still a product that sells a lot, but not as expected a few years ago, "says the researcher.
According to data from consultancy IDC, there was a fall in sales of tablets for the first time in the country in 2015: last year, manufacturers sold slightly more than 5.8 million units, indentation of 38% in comparison to 2014.
However, the forecast of FGV-SP for the year 2016 is optimistic, with trading of 15.2 million units, in growth of 7% in comparison with last year.
"The computer sales should grow in 2016 because they fell too much in recent years. Businesses and home users held their purchases, but now there is more like the other way on this, "says Meirelles.
