Mars implements new policies for raw materials such as meat, soy, cellulose and paper for combating deforestation

Mars has released three new policies directed to the reduction of deforestation in their supply chains: beef, soy, pulp and paper. These new rules are part of an overall compromise and a "Deforestation policy" launched in 2014, that trace clear targets of reducing the impact of forest which focus on the raw materials used by Mars. In line with its policy of existing Palm oil, these new rules are part of a broader effort of the company to protect the forests, biodiversity and minimize the emission of carbon dioxide from its supply chain, in addition to respecting human rights.
"Deforestation causes roughly 15% of global emissions of gases that affect the environment, reduces biodiversity, disrupts water cycles, increases soil erosion and generates serious social and economic problems," says Barry Parkin, Chief Sustainability Officer of Mars, Incorporated. "Mars is committed to the supply of raw materials sustainably. When establishing such standards throughout our supply chain, the company is working to bring real solutions to the complex problem of deforestation. "
