Sony prepares changes in cell division

The Chief Executive of Sony warned that next year may be the last smart phones Division of the company, claiming it will consider other options for the drive if she can't be profitable.
After years of losses, the Chief Executive of Sony, Kazuo Hirai, has promoted a successful restructuring plan of the group, with recent results showing improvements thanks to cost cuts, abandonment of business such as computers and strong sales of image sensors and video games. The area of Sony's cell includes the Xperia brand, which holds just 17.5 percent of the market in Japan and less than 1 percent in North America, according to data from the company last year.
Sony reduced in July its forecast of performance of the mobile phone unit in this fiscal year to a loss of 60 billion yen compared with a previous expectation of negative result of 39 billion.
"I have a feeling that a recovery in our business with electronics has shown progress. The result of three years of restructuring is starting to show, "he said. "But we still need to keep the restructuring in the area of smartphones."
