Government reduces tax hybrid cars

BUENOS AIRES-the Council of Ministers of foreign trade Chamber (Camex), the Brazilian Ministry of development, industry and foreign trade (Mdic), approved the reduction in the import duty for hybrid cars. The tax rate will drop from the current 35% to percentages ranging from 0% to 5%.
The highest tax rate will be applied to the vehicle that enter Brazil fully assembled. If the manufacturer brings the car dismantled, may have reduced the tax depending on the amount of items and workmanship which aggregate in Brazil. The tax will also vary according to energy efficiency. Namely, according to the economy that each model achieve per kilometer run.
The resolution is a victory, especially, of Toyota, which for months trying to persuade the Government to give the benefit for vehicles like the Prius, the first hybrid in the world, sold for years in Europe and United States.
The Prius will cost more than RS $ 120,000 in Brazil. Toyota has not yet defined the new prices. Ford also owns a Focus hybrid.
The hybrid is the vehicle that has two motors-electric and other combustion, which takes care of electric supply. When the vehicle reaches low speeds, the electric motor kicks in.
