Carrefour invests and minimarkets

Carrefour enters the retail of minimarkets in Brazil with the launch of the Carrefour Express. The first unit was opened in São Paulo, with less than 700 square meters. The selling point is the place where functioned a webshop Econ Supermarkets. The project is the result of years of planning, which had not yet been put into practice due to changes at the helm of the company.
The flag came to Brazil for the first time in 2007. The minimarkets worked in gas stations, in Porto Alegre, and have had no success in sales. The strategy was aimed at a more accelerated expansion of rescue. Opening costs are lower, around r $ 1 million per unit, front of the more than $ 10 million that the traditional supermarkets can cost.
The GPA, one of Carrefour's main competitors, have already adopted the model with Extra mini market, which grew 53 percent in the first six months of operation with an estimated turnover of $ 307 million.
