Sales of games for PCs and consoles will retreat 12% until 2019

SAO PAULO-The global sales of games for PCs and consoles such as the Xbox and PlayStation will retreat to $ 46.5 billion this year and continue on a downward trend until 2019, when the expectation is that the market move $ 41 billion, according to research firm Juniper Research. According to the company, even with the fall and with the growth of the market of games on mobile devices, games for PCs and consoles will still represent 50% of the market over the next five years. Portable Consoles, like PlayStation Vita, from Sony and Nintendo's Gameboy, will be less than 2% of the market in 2018.
To Juniper's analysts, sales of PC games will be bigger than those of the consoles in the period. For the company, the new generation of consoles, composed by Wii U, from Nintendo, the Xbox One, from Microsoft and the Sony PlayStation 4, Sony, which hit the market at the end of last year, will generate a short-term advance sales of games, which will be followed by a stabilization in that the life cycle of the equipment will come to an end. The expectation is that the next generation, the ninth, to reach the market in 2019, returning to the traditional cycle of 6 years. Until 2019, Juniper's expectation is that the gaming services directly over the internet — without the use of physical media like DVDs or Blu-ray, as the PlayStation Now — reach a revenue of $ 1 billion in five years, about four times more than estimated value for 2014 ($ 281 million).
