Net profit of 97.9% rises in Retail Via 2nd tri, for R $ 187 million

SÃO PAULO-Via Retail recorded net income of r $ 187 million in the second quarter of this year, at a high of 97.9% over the r $ 94 million recorded in the second quarter of last year.
The data have been disclosed late on Tuesday on the company's Web site, owned by Grupo Pão de Açúcar and administers Pontofrio, Casas Bahia and e-commerce operations of the group.
The company's net revenue was R $ 5,525 billion in the second quarter, against r $ 5,116 billion in the same period last year, an improvement of 8%.
The cost of sales grew 8%, from r $ 3,511 billion in the second quarter of 2013 for R $ 3,792 billion in the second quarter of this year.
Operating expenses decreased 2.7%, from r $ 1,284 billion in the second quarter of last year to $ 1,249 billion in the second quarter of 2014.
The Ebitda (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) for the second quarter of this year reached r $ 493 million, up from 50.8% over the r $ 327 million for the second quarter of 2013.
