Sobe juice in NY with concern losses with greening

The orange juice futures prices continue rising on the New York Stock Exchange, underpinned by concern over losses in Florida orchards. The assessment that the damage caused by the greening can be even greater has given support to contracts.
Yesterday, the contract for July advanced 2.78% and closed at 145.85 cents per pound weight. On Friday, the US Government has maintained its estimate for the 2012/13 Orange crop in the country. But analysts say that the continuation of the outbreak of the disease may lead to new cuts in the forecast. The greening is the worst disease of citrus and, together with the drought that hit Florida this season, has made the United States Department of agriculture (USDA) cut the harvest projection of the State in 10% since the beginning of the season, for 138 million boxes.
On the same stock exchange, sugar retreated 1.03 percent and closed at 17.25 cents per pound weight, lowest level in nearly 34 months. The favorable climate in Brazil favored the sugar cane processing. The sugar cane industry Union (Unica) said yesterday that the volume processed in South Central in 2013/14 cumulative 190.14% increased compared with the same period of the last cycle.
In Chicago, corn if valued 3.03%, because of shortage of supply on the physical market. Soybeans also rose due to restricted availability in the short term.
But the longer contracts had their gains limited by the prospect that the US will reap a record harvest in 2013/14.
