Research shows that 19% of Brazilians consume some organic item

The Brazilian Council for Organic and Sustainable production (Organis) conducted the organic Consumer research 2019, which shows very optimistic results for the sector: 19% of Brazilians consume some organic product and 35% of the population consumed products Organic in the last six months; 67% are willing to increase the purchase of products, being in the southern region the highest percentage of consumption (48%), followed by the southeast (42%). Held by the Brain – Bureau of corporate intelligence, the research interviewed 1,027 people in the cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Recife, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Florianópolis, Curitiba, Manaus, Goiânia and Brasília, being 56% Women and 44% men, from 18 to 40 years, with income of 1 to 10 minimum wages. The first Organis survey, in 2017, registered 15% of organic consumers (not including the northern region) and today's research shows growth to 19%. "We found that 1 in 5 Brazilians consume some organic product, with an average frequency of three times a week, especially Hortifrutis. There are many opportunities for growth, as research has measured that 88% are willing to buy organic, "explains Ming Liu, director of Organis. The vegetables remain in the leadership of consumption in the organic sector (35%-fruits, 24% of vegetables, 21% lettuce, 16% vegetables, 15% tomato and 8% vegetables), but 35% of Brazilian consumers know that there are other types of organic products besides such as cleaning products, cosmetics and clothing. The price of organic products still weighs in the purchase decision for 75% of respondents, but the research points out that for 48% of those who consume this difference is justified. "What animates us is to realize that a significant portion of Brazilians already clearly recognizes the value added to organic products, because both those who consume and those who do not consume this type of product understand that the higher production costs Justify the highest price of organic. From this research, we can safely say that, as the Brazilian income increases, the size of the organic market will also grow, as there is motivation and willingness to consume, "concludes Cobi Cruz, director of Organis.
