Microsoft grows more here than in the world

While most companies have suffered from the downturn in the economy in Brazil, Microsoft has reason to celebrate. The subsidiary of owner of the Windows was presented the highest revenue growth among emerging countries in fiscal year 2014, closed in June.
The company does not open the country specific numbers, but according to Mariano de Beer, a year at the helm of Microsoft in Brazil, the performance was superior to 11.69 percent growth presented by the company as a whole, which led to global revenues to $ 86,73 billion.
"It was a growth in dollars, not in real, and in one Exchange scenario more undervalued," said the Executive.
The estimate of experts is that Microsoft has a recipe in the order of $ 2 billion ($ 4.5 billion) in Brazil. This value also considers the operation of cell phones and the Nokia tablets, bought by Microsoft in September last year.
According to the Executive, three areas pulled sales: services for small and medium-sized enterprises on the internet-in the cloud-computing model; Xbox video game consoles; and phones with Windows Phone operating system. Also made a difference in the results that the company has decided to expand its geographic presence, seeking customers mainly in São Paulo and in the Northeast.
Beer is also excited about the educational sector, which also shows the expansion in sales of Microsoft. Among the achievements in this segment, is the Anhanguera Educacional. After the merger with Kroton, announced in April, the Anhanguera switched Apps, spreadsheet programs, package editing text and Google presentations, by Office, Microsoft.
In serving businesses, Mariano said that Microsoft has benefited of a typical technology market phenomenon: the need to maintain investments even in times of economic uncertainty. The idea is that the adoption of new systems help companies to be more competitive. And this is important both in moments of calm and crisis.
Beer notes that small and medium-sized enterprises are adopting the model of purchase of cloud technology. In it, there is no need for large investments in equipment and software and payment is made as the service is used. "It solves a big problem for them, which is to maintain a technology framework," he said. In the fiscal year ended in June, sales of cloud services for smaller companies have more than doubled. The inauguration of A Microsoft Data Center in the first semester, in the State of São Paulo, was one of the factors that stimulated this expansion.
Advance in the areas of cloud and devices is essential to Microsoft. With a story built on the sale of licenses of Office and Windows, the company has invested to gain relevance in areas that have shown greater growth than the world of PCs. The steps slower than expected by experts, the company has advanced in some areas. In fiscal year 2014, revenues from cloud, for example, has doubled, reaching $ 4.4 billion, or 5% of the company's global sales. The sale of cell phones answered by other 2.3%.
Guide the company in this new moment is Indian task Satya Nadella, who took over as Chief Executive in February, replacing company cofounder Steve Ballmer. Since coming to Office, Nadella has worked to accelerate the pace of change in the company.
His first decision was announced the launch of the Office application for the iPad and for devices with Android operating system. The demand was one of the most frequent on the market, but Microsoft remained firm on the position that the offer of the Office was a differential for tablets with Windows system, whose sales have not soared.
Other measures had focused on simplifying the company. Nadella cut by half the number of areas of engineering in the company, focusing on devices, operating systems, cloud and productivity. The world CEO also announced 18 thousand layoffs until 2015.
Asked about layoffs, Beer says that in Brazil the operation proceeds normally. For him, Nadella has all the conditions to lead the company in its transformation for being an Executive who likes to hear, and it presents itself as the owner of the truth. Beer dinner with the CEO, recently, as a prize for performance in Brazil. "Microsoft has changed, is more open and Brazil is one of the operations that are leading this new phase," he said.
To continue growing in the country, Beer excelled as main problem not the hazy economic scenario for the economy, as the planned for 2015. In his assessment, the big problem is the ability to present, at the point of sale, the company's products. Is this is not just a matter of training, but also educational. "More than 70% of students leave high school without the ability to fully understand a text," he said.
To improve customer service to the final consumer, the company, which employs 3 thousand people in the country, has invested in new forms of training vendors, like sharing videos by WhatsApp and groups for Exchange of information on social networks. "We have to be very good at execution," said Beer.
