Games industry needs more business, says study

The Brazilian industry of games (video games) is competent, qualified professionals and schools that form people to work in the sector, but lacks greater experience in the areas of business, commercial and administrative. This is the general framework outlined by the survey of information about the Games industry and public policies for the sector, issued by the Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES).
The survey was conducted by the Fundação de Apoio à Universidade de São Paulo (Fusp), selected entity through public call. The work, which was extended for 12 months and heard 133 national developers of games, was financed by BNDES, with non-reimbursable resources, amounting to $ 1.3 million from the Fund Structuring of Bank projects. The games industry in Brazil is small and beginner, in comparison with the market leaders, said the Vice-Coordinator of the study, David Nakano, the core of production engineering from USP. The survey seeks to identify what can be done to position the national industry on the world stage, because the country does not appear prominently.
Nakano said the sector has lack of more specialized and experienced professionals. Most companies are very young, with less than three years. A minority has more than five or ten years. "It is a young industry, which has skills, but suffers from the fact that it is made up of very small businesses and the lack of larger experience".
In General, the games entrepreneur has passion for the subject, technical knowledge, but lack a commercial and administrative competence to launch their products on the market.
It takes, defended, which create conditions for financing and capitalization so that these small businesses will be able to develop, in addition to actions in order to give a greater training for entrepreneurs, from the point of view of the business and also in the administrative and commercial part. "Actions in order to create a more conducive business environment for these enterprises".
Higher demand according to David Nakano, a way of helping the sector is creating demand, which could, for example, with the development of games for teaching, in schools. The survey quotes data from international consultancy PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), according to which the world of digital games market moved, in 2011, about $ 74 billion, with predictions that should exceed $ 82 billion in 2015.
By contrast, in Brazil, it is estimated that the market is around $ 3 billion. According to PWC, sales in the sector should grow until 2016, at an average of 7.2% per year. Asia appears as the biggest world market, followed by Europe and the United States.
