Sell more trucks this year boosts production of MWM engines

The year 2013 is being of great celebrations for the manufacturer of MWM diesel engines, which completes 60 years in the country. The company will resume production at its plant in Argentina and Brazil will produce 140 thousand thrusters, 25% increase compared to last year. In 2012, the company had already mounted 112 thousand units, a volume considered "out of turn".
"The market last year was very bad. We had a production of trucks around 133 thousand units, the fall was about 40% with 2011. Now, with the acceptance of new engines and the resolution of problems of supply trucks, we believe that there is a reaction. Automakers should produce about 170 thousand units, "said the President of MWM International, Luiz Eduardo Luzzi. "This will pull our market as well."
Today, diesel engines for the auto industry accounts for about 40% of the production of MWM in Brazil. The other 60% of the business is divided into engines for other applications, such as agricultural machinery. The company strategy is to be closer to the customer and it maintains a policy of partnership with major automakers for assembling engines with their brands. She did it with the MAN Latin America, in 2011, for the manufacture of motor Man who equips the extra-heavy TGX truck. And last year, signed a similar partnership with MWM General Motors.
In the case of GM, the MWM provides the diesel engine for the New S10 pickup, produced at the factory in São José dos Campos, in the State of São Paulo. For this endeavor, the company has invested $ 80 million. The second features Luzzi, were used in the development and adaptation of motor assembly line dedicated for the American automaker.
"Our investment plan ends in 2013 and already we are analyzing the new cycle. As there are many companies that want to produce in Brazil, we have a huge potential that can be exploited. Therefore, do not set yet as we will apply in the country. What I can say is that we will invest in capacity in some production lines, "said Luzzi.
According to him, within that strategy to improve the capacity, the company is expanding in 15% the machining of engine blocks Euro V. The line will cut 35 thousand units per year. "It was a planned investment in the light of the prospect of increased demand for this type of engine in the country. But this is a flexible line. Our capacity will vary according to demand, "he added. Other investment scheduled is the reactivation of the unit in Argentina. MWM will produce engines in Jesus Maria, from the month of May. Luzzi said the company maintains that only machining services country of engine parts and investments at the reopening of the plant will be about $ 4 million.
The Argentina plant will have an installed capacity of 5 thousand engines per year. In the first year of operation, will be produced about 1 thousand thrusters.
"There are significant resources. Is a factory with about 20 years of operation, but in the last 10 engine production was transferred to the Brazilian units. Now we have clients that will sustain the reactivation of fitting the thrusters in Argentina, "said Luzzi. MWM's focus is the segment of buses and agricultural machines, in particular wheel tractors and sprayers.
