Verizon will sell TUMBLR to WordPress owner Company

The Verizon phone operator announced on Monday (12) that it will sell the TUMBLR blogging site to Automattic, a company that owns the WordPress publishing tool. TUMBLR is a social network that allows users to post photos, videos and other types of media and make sharing in an easy way. The site was very popular among younger people, but lost space as other platforms emerged. The social network was sold at 2013 for Yahoo by U $1 billion. Verizon stayed with the company when it bought Yahoo assets for US $4.4 billion. Last year, a decision taken by Verizon to banish all the adult content of the site has pushed some users away. When Tumblr was bought by Yahoo one of the investor questions was why the company was investing in a social network notorious for the large amount of posts with such content. The Verizon Media Group, which was formerly called Oath, controls more than 50 brands, including news sites like HuffPost and TechCrunch. In the second quarter of the year, the group had revenues of US $1.8 billion, 2.9% lower than in the same period of 2018.
