Valentine's Day sales should grow up to 3%, says ACSP

The Paulista retail expects growth between 2% and 3% in the sales movement of products aimed at Valentine's Day in the capital, in relation to last year, according to the survey of the Commercial Association of São Paulo (ACSP). "With the low growth of the Brazilian economy, the prospect is a moderate increase in sales," says Marcel Solimeo, an economist at ACSP. He points out that Valentine's Day is, by nature, a date of gifts of personal use, of lesser value. Items such as jewellery, chocolates and flowers, like every year, must be among the most popular. "But the branch to be observed closely is the garment: it will be the faithful of the balance. If the temperature drops, the autumn-winter fashion will have great demand and help in the results. Now, if it does not cool, the purchase of gifts will be restricted to the souvenirs. " Solimeo adds that last year sales of the first fortnight of June were benefited by the start of the World Cup, creating a stronger basis for a comparison.
