Amazon to open distribution center in Pernambuco in 2020

Amazon announced on Thursday (12) that it will open a new distribution center in Brazil in 2020, this time in Pernambuco. It will be the retailer's second own unit in the country — the first was inaugurated at the beginning of the year in Cajamar (SP). "Today's announcement marks our long-term commitment to Brazil and, mainly, with our customers across the country," Amazon President Alex Szapiro said in a statement. The company did not disclose how much it is investing in the new distribution center, which initially will have 10,000 square meters, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, a municipality in Greater Recife. The retailer expects to start operations in the first half of 2020, reducing the minimum delivery time to up to two days in Recife, João Pessoa, Natal, Maceió and Fortaleza, according to the statement. Also according to Amazon, the opening of the distribution center in Pernambuco should create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, which add up to the more than 3,200 jobs created since 2012 in Brazil.
