Shoe celebrate decision that can unlock exports

The decision of the Supreme Court (STF) release the importation of shrimp from Ecuador can end the barrier imposed on Brazilian footwear since July 2017, which caused damage estimated at more than $ $20 million. The Executive Chairman of Brazilian footwear industries Association (Abicalçados), Hector Klein, celebrates the fact, with special attention of the entity over the past year. "As a form of retaliation for the import barrier of Cameroon, the Ecuadorian Government came requiring an extensive list of information for verification of the origin of the Brazilian footwear and a guarantee fee of 10% of the value of the product over $ $6 per pair, which, in many cases, ended up making the process ", explains Klein. The President of Abicalçados adds that the claim for the barrier imposed on Ecuadorian shrimp was that this represented a risk of contamination, which had already been denied by the Ministry of agriculture, livestock and food supply (Mapa). Last year, even with the problems of barriers, the Ecuadorians imported $ $34 million in Brazilian footwear, 31% more than in 2017. "It's a very strong market and that with the resolution of the obstacle should grow even more in 2019," concludes Klein.
