France wants to ban use of glyphosate until 2022, say papers

São Paulo, 25/9-one of the most widely used herbicides for weed control in the world, glyphosate, probably on borrowed time in France. That's because the Government spokesman, Christophe Castaner said, on Monday, 25, that the herbicide should be banned from 2022 for all purposes, including agriculture. According to the spokesman, in an interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP), over the next five years the Government intends to move the debates to all pesticides.
The European Commission studies authorise the marketing of glyphosate for over 10 years. French authorities, however, believe that this period is too long, given the uncertainties of its effects on the health of farmers.
According to the French newspaper Le Monde, the announcement by the spokesperson of the Government revolted representatives such as the National Farmers Federation (FNSEA, the acronym in French). According to a representative of the Federation, the lock doesn't make sense, to the extent that Europe should adopt an extension.
On Friday, the AFP reported that more than 250 members of the FNSEA farmers held a protest on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, against the possibility of the Government to prohibit the import of foods using the herbicide glyphosate in your production.
