Waterways of Brazil beats record when transporting 55000 tons of soybeans

The Waterways of Brazil, integrated logistics company with a focus on the utilization of waterway transport throughout Latin America, hit record in the month of may, when performing a complex operation to transport 55000 tons of soybeans from Paraguay to Uruguay. The company''s challenge was to carry the load for a 1,490 kilometers of waterways, where there are restrictions on the number of vessels allowed to navigate, due to the river depth.
With 32 barges of 66 metres wide and 420 metres long, connected at the same time, the company developed a strategy to carry the full load more efficiently and with lower costs. The logistics process began with 20 loading barges in the area of Asunción, Paraguay, and then were coupled to these barges more 12 who were in Confluence (junction of rivers Paraguay and Paraná). Thus, followed San Lorenzo, Argentina, where it was necessary to split the train at 16 and 16 (limit allowed on this stretch), to reach their final destination, Nueva Palmira, Uruguay.
With this disruptive, Waterways logistics operation of Brazil obtained about of 55% reduction in costs. This movement was held at the Logistical Corridor South, where the company operates through the Paraguay-Paraná waterway and moves more than 6 million tons of various loads, such as agricultural commodities, minerals, cellulose, among others.
