USA: food service sector gives priority to recycling

Food service packaging account for less than 2% of urban waste in the United States. Still, the industry is committed to reduce the indicator and, to this end, the new allies are a website and a virtual Toolkit. Projections of Food Service Packaging Institute attributed to plastic 50% share of unit volume of packaging this segment in use in the United States. By weight, the participation of the plastic into food service is calculated in 1/3 of the total. The new website covers, in addition to different audiences for this industry, references of end markets and recycling companies. As the Toolkit, the website came to light as a result of increasing pressure from lawmakers and environmental groups committed to extend the recovery of post-consumer packaging via recycling.
