A Crime against Brazil

The cigarette industry is the sector most impacted by smuggling. In 2015, 33.7 billion cigarettes entered the country illegally, an increase of 10 billion in about 2011. Of each $ 3 in goods entering the Country without paying taxes, $ 2 from the cigars. It is estimated that almost a third of all cigarettes consumed in Brazil comes from Paraguay. The country has 32 factories, which produce 55 billion cigarettes a year. The President himself is the owner of Tickets largest manufacturer, Tabacalera Del Este S.A. (Tabesa), which is 60 kilometers from Brazil. This huge influx of neighbouring country mainly occurs because of the large increase in Brazil''s tax burden for this industry, even more for cigarettes cheaper, that compete directly with those of Paraguay. 2012 to 2015 only taxes on cigarettes increased by 110% in Brazil. In addition to the huge losses, bad quality products from Paraguay does not undergo phytosanitary control and bring great risks to the health of consumers. Who loses with the illegal trade are employees of industry, since many factories closed and 30 1000 formal jobs were extinct in recent years. This practice has affected 400 1000 retailers and 160 1000 producers still smoke.
