Fertilizers and other inputs outweigh the costs with maize production

Fertilizers, pesticides, seeds and machinery operations accounted for more than half of the cost of production of corn in 2015/16. Despite the reduction in relation to the previous harvest, the expenditures on these supplies 50% ranged from 80%, according to a study by the national supply company (Conab). The data are part of the analysis of the cost of production and profitability of corn Culture, released on Tuesday (25) on the website of the company.
The analyses were carried out in major corn-producing States: Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul, which are responsible for 80.38% of the national production. The inputs mentioned responded by 70.14% of the cost of production in Mato Grosso, 65% in Paraná, 72.65% in Mato Grosso do Sul, 73.86% in Goiás, 79.69% in Minas Gerais and 65.72% in Rio Grande do Sul. According to the study, the growth of the participation of these items has a direct relation with the inclusion of new technological packages.
This is the third volume of the compendium of Studies from Conab. Previous editions bring prospects for investment in the production of rice, wheat and beans and evolution of the cost of production of soybeans in Brazil. The goal of the publications is to promote the debate and the circulation of knowledge in the segments of agriculture, supply and food and nutritional security in the agricultural sector.
