Sales of PCs fell 26% in 2014, aims to IDC Brazil

In 2014, 10.3 million computers were sold, representing a drop of 26% in comparison with the previous year. Of this total, 4 million are desktops (indentation of 31%, in the same comparative basis) and 6.4 million notebooks (fall of 22 percent).
With respect to the profile of buyers, 29% were marketed for the corporate market and 71% for the final consumer.
The data are part of the IDC study Brazil PCs Tracker Q4, conducted by IDC Brazil, a company that provides consulting services in information technology and telecommunications.
2014 results were negatively affected by the out-of-season Carnival, FIFA World Cup, elections and high-dollar, says IDC Brazil.
"Traditionally, March is a very positive month for the PC market, however, the Carnival postponed made the first quarter was very negative in sales. Then there was the World Cup and retailers focused on other categories of products. The uncertainties in relation to elections and the volatility of the American currency also contributed to the poor performance in 2014, "says Peter Hagge, research analyst of IDC Brazil.
IDC Brazil projection for 2015 is falling 3% of the PC market in Brazil. "The high dollar will impede the recovery. That you can notice in the shops, where the products are 15% to 20% more expensive than they were six months ago, "said Hagge.
Yet for the IDC analyst Brazil, the Brazilian consumer is very sensitive to prices and that factor, combined with the economic instability and the adoption of other devices, will cause the PC market in Brazil to end this year down.
Q4
Between October and December last year, were sold nearly 2.7 million PCs, with drop of 25% in comparison with the same period in 2013 and high of 3% compared with the third quarter of 2014.
966 thousand were sold 1.7 million desktops and notebooks. In comparison with the fourth quarter of 2013, was decrease of 29% on desktops and 21% on notebooks.
"The fourth quarter volumes have been increasingly affected by Black Friday. Retailers are buying and stocking the products already in September and the trend is not to have another fourth quarter as strong as in previous years, "said Hagge.
In addition, the weak pace of the economy, credit shortages, inflation and the high-dollar, which ends up generating transfer of consumer prices, were also contributed to the weak performance in the period.
In relation to convertible PCs, IDC analyst Brazil States that despite some good releases in the second half of 2014 and the fact sales have increased by 20% in comparison with the third quarter, the category "haven't got" in Brazil.
"There were about 42 thousand convertible notebooks sold between October, November and September", he adds.
