Josapar provides increased sales of rice

Leader in sales of rice in Brazil with the brand Tio João, the Gaucho Josapar, one of the largest processors of rice and beans in the country, usually do not see big jumps in this market, characterized by retract every time that the income of the population grows. In the last five years, the rice consumption in Brazil has been on the side of House of 12 million tons, close to domestic production, also in this level, according to Conab (national supply company). On the other hand, this migration should jeopardise the growth of higher value-added products that entered in your Josapar portfolio in the last two decades: the functional foods. With a margin 15% higher than that of conventional products, such as rice and beans, functional line is a bet the company to hook consumers with any food intolerance, in particular those related to ingestion of lactose and gluten. "But the loss of purchasing power tends to impact the sale of higher value-added products," says the Executive, without making projections.
Unlike its major competitor, Camil Alimentos, Josapar didn't break for the internationalisation of its business. The company, which earned $ 1,120 billion in 2013 (latest available annual data), decided a few years ago diversify in their own domestic market. The functional foods and with higher added value accounted for 15% of the company's revenues in 2013.
Still, the rice follows as flagship company, with 60% of participation in billing. Josapar has yet to release the results for the last quarter of 2014. But from January to September, revenues amounted to r $ 828,9 million, 2.8% higher than the r $ 806,2 million in the same period in 2013.
