Production of grape juice and sparkling wines increased last year

Sales of wine products produced in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, which correspond to approximately 90% of the Brazilian production, remained stable in 2014, compared to the previous year. The figures released by IBRAVIN (Brazilian Wine Institute) indicate that there has been a reduction of 0.18% in total global marketing, following the low economic growth in the period, with the Brazilian GDP (gross domestic Product) showing variation of 0.2%.
The highlights, once again, were sparkling wines, by selling 16.7 million liters, and the juices of grapes ready for consumption, with sales of 90.2 million liters, growth rates of 5.5% and 13.5%, respectively.
Against the grain of these results, the wines showed reduction of 3.9%, similar to the number registered in the marketing of table wines, with negative index of 4.1%. Already imported products, reacted in relation to the previous year and grew by 12.4% on sale in supermarkets, shops, wineries and restaurants.
The President of FECOVINHO (Federation of Cooperatives of Rio Grande do Sul Wineries), Oscar Ló, emphasizes that cooperatives in the State have increased the production of grape juices and sparkling wines, which showed steady growth in recent years. "We have seen a growth in sales of bottled products, and that is a good thing, since they are products with higher added value", emphasizes the leader.
