Braskem expands production of special polyethylenes in Bahia

Braskem completed investment of approximately r $ 50 million in one of its factories in Bahia to enlarge the production capacity of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) in 120 thousand tons per year. With that, the company will have the capacity to supply virtually the entire national demand for the product, which previously depended on imports. Of the total production has already started, 100 thousand tons will be part of the family Braskem Flexus ®, a brand of polyethylene base metallocene Braskem.
To enlarge the production, Braskem has converted one of its industrial polyethylene production lines in order to offer a more modern technology with resin for plastic film processing industry. The decision confirms the Braskem's commitment with its clients and with the development of the plastics production chain in Brazil.
The unit, located at the petrochemical pole of Camaçari, Bahia, started to have a line completely dedicated to the production of this resin. "We expanded our offer of Braskem Flexus ® family products to ensure support for the growth of our customers into market segments that require high-tech resins", says Vice President of Braskem's polyolefins, Luciano Guidolin.
"With this investment, we will be able to serve the defendant by the Brazilian market growth in the coming years, in addition to meeting the need of our customers for films with better performance," says the Director of Braskem's polyethylene business, Edison Earth. "Currently, about 30% of the market of LLDPE is supplied by imported product. With the investment, Braskem expands its ability to meet the national demand almost all of this family for the next years, "she adds.
Metallocenes technology represents about 20% of the market of LLDPE, but grows at higher than average rates of this market. The Braskem Flexus ® is used in packaging requiring characteristics such as greater strength, brightness, transparency and sealing. Is geared to the processing industry in applications of special films, industrial films and techniques coils.
