Harley-Davidson selects consumers to test their electric motorcycle

Riders who are part of project LiveWire, the traditional motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson, crossed the Manhattan Bridge in New York, on Monday, 23, thus beginning the test to develop the first electric bike brand.
The new bikes are not yet on sale, but the company begins from now on select American consumers willing to participate in a series of events and collaborate in the development of Harley-Davidsons.
The project will be officially launched on Tuesday, 24, at the headquarters of Herley in Milwaukee, will offer licensed pilots the opportunity to experience an electrical Harley. The company has reserved 30 prototypes of electric motorcycles that will be used in tests between New York and Chicago.
The riders will travel down route 66 to Santa Monica, Calif., stopping at dealerships and other locations along the way. The company says the electric motorcycles represent a small slice of the global market, but intends to stay away from research for its development.
The mark of 111 years prospered by selling a line of retro-style bikes that resemble models of the years 1950. In recent years, however, the recession and the inevitable aging of its customers made it clear that the future survival depends on diversification.
The company recently introduced two smaller, more modern models, designed to attract younger customers. The project LiveWire's part of the strategy to grow with new products on the world market.
