Sale of cars keeps high pace

The National Federation of distribution of motor vehicles (Fenabrave)-entity that represents utilities-sector unveiled yesterday the numbers on vehicle sales for February, in confirming the expected drop in sales compared to a month before-when the numbers were driven by quest for smaller taxes on cars in stock. Despite the monthly decline, the entity continues registering growth in sales compared to 2013.
At the beginning of 2014, the numbers had been influenced by the race of consumers at dealerships behind the recent stock cars with lower tax rate in the tax on industrialized products (IPI). But this catalyst already gives signs of exhaustion. In February, the number of plates issued to cars and light commercial fell 17.95% compared to the immediately preceding month, to 245.9 thousand units.
About 2013, however, the number of sales in February rose 10.55%, benefited by the fact that the Carnival this year be in March. Analyzing only the license plate of cars, there were high of 6.5% compared to a year earlier, to 182.6 million units. The light commercial sale presented strong increase of 24% over a year earlier, to 63 thousand units.
When analyzed the first quarter of 2014, there was growth of 5.08% compared with a year earlier-to 545.6 thousand units. "Despite the anticipation of purchases in January, month in which there was still stock vehicles with greater reduction in the tax on industrialized products (IPI), the first two months of the year were positive compared to the same period in 2013," said Fenabrave's President, Flávio Meneghetti, in text released by the entity.
In addition to automobiles and utilities, the Fenabrave still gathers data on trucks, buses, motorcycles and road equipment. In February, the total number of plates issued fell 14.52% compared to the immediately preceding month, to 393.1 thousand units. Compared to a year earlier, the number of sales in February grew by 12.73%. The plates issued to more growth in this comparison were presented light commercial vehicles and motorbikes.
The lifting of the Fenabrave shows that sales of buses and trucks totaled 13.4 million units, which represents a growth of 6.4% compared to a year earlier. Motorcycles grew 17.2% in comparison to 119.5 million units. Roadway equipment grew 8.1% to 4.6 million units.
In cars, Fenabrave balance points out that Fiat holds the lead in sales, with market share of 22.4% in February. Volkswagen comes in second place, with 19.1% stake. Then, are GM (18.3 percent), Ford (8.1 percent), Hyundai (7.5 percent), Renault (6.2 percent), Honda (4.7 percent), Toyota (4.2 percent), Citroen (2.5 percent), Nissan (1.9%) and others.
In light trade, sales were also led by Fiat, with 26.8 percent stake. GM is in second place with 14.2%. Also on the list are the Volkswagen (12%) Ford (9.5 percent), Renault (6.7 percent), Toyota (also with 6.7 percent), Mitsubishi (6.6 percent), Hyundai (4.8 percent), KIA (1.7 percent), Nissan (1.2%) and others.
In trucks, sales were led by Volkswagen, with 25.8 percent. Then are Mercedes-Benz (24.3 percent), Volvo (15.7 percent), Ford (13.2 percent), Scania (12 percent), Iveco (6.1%) and others.
